Blogger Guest Post – Bronwen @ Babbles & Books

Hey everyone!
I have no review to post today, but I do have one coming this Saturday, for my stop on the Harrow Lake blog tour!
So, for today’s post, here is another guest post.

This week, we have Bronwen, from Babbles & Books!

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Bronwen and I’m an English Teacher living in Kent. I’ve been obsessed with books for as long as I can remember, probably since I could ever be obsessed with anything. My mum is always retelling the tale of when I was younger I gave myself double vision for the day having stayed up the night before reading Anne of Green Gables under the covers! I’m fairly sure that makes me a fanatic. My blog tends to surround books (unsurprisingly), baking, and travels.

Why did you decide to start a blog?

I first started my blog during university as it gave me a space to have ownership over what I loved doing: reading. Don’t get me wrong, I adored studying literature, but reading for pleasure and reading for study are two completely different experiences. My blog gave me a chance to appreciate books I enjoyed and share that with other people who loved them too.

What is your favourite thing about being a blogger?

I love the freedom it gives me. I’m not one of those bloggers who fits myself to a schedule or puts any real pressure on my writing. I love my blog simply because of the freedom it gives me. I write when I can’t think about doing anything other than write, when something seems to have taken over and I just need to rant and rave and share it. And I love the magic in that.

Who are some of your favourite authors?

I think, like many who ‘grew up’ as The Mortal Instruments came out, Cassandra Clare will always have a special place in my heart, same as the likes of JK Rowling. However, I find my favourites tend to change and alternate as I read and enjoy such a wide range of genres. At the moment, three writers I definitely find myself leaning towards would be Lucy Dillon, Laura Purcell, and Menna Van Praag.

Name one book that you think everyone should read in their lifetime, and explain why.

Gosh, what a tricky question! This is one where I’m sure my answer would change every time you asked me but, for the time being, I’m going to go with The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. There’s so much at work in that book and it’s so complex that I wouldn’t want anyone to miss out, especially as I know the size can be quite daunting.

Suggest 3 blogs that you enjoy reading.

  • I absolutely adore Booksnest and find Beth’s posts full of sunshine.
  • Recently I discovered Emma’s blog over at NeverJudgeABookByItsCover and have been thoroughly enjoying that.
  • Christy and Claire’s blog at ImAllBookedUp is also amazing.

There’s so many other fantastic blogs that I could babble on about them for ages!

Choose your favourite 3 posts from your blog.

I really enjoyed writing  my What I Got Up To In Edinburgh blog post as it was such a magical christmassy trip and it was wonderful to share.
Two book reviews that I loved writing have to be The House at the End of Hope Street by Menna Van Praag and The Kingdom by Jess Rothenburg. Both were fantastic reads and it was wonderful being able to share them.
