The Mid-Year Freakout Tag

Hey everyone!

Today, I will be doing the Mid-Year Freakout tag. I saw this on Reading At Teatime, and thought I would give it a go myself.

How much have you read?

So, I set my GoodReads reading challenge to 50 books for the year, and so far, I have read 20. Not too bad, but I was hoping to have read more by now, I have had a couple of books that I have DNF’ed around half way through though.

What have you been reading?

Mainly thrillers (not a surprise), but I have thrown a few different genres in to the mix too.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2020

Oh this is hard, because I’ve had a few amazing reads so far! But I would have to say Fifty Fifty by Steve Cavanagh.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020

I have only read 3 sequels this year, which are Domain by James Herbert, Avenge the Dead by Jackie Baldwin, and Lost by Leona Deakin. Both books were amazing, but because I preferred The Rats and Lair (books 1 and 2) to Domain (book 3), and I haven’t read the books before Avenge the Dead in the DI Frank Farrell series yet, I will say that Lost has been my favourite sequel.

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

I actually can’t think of any that have been released in 2020, that I really want to read but haven’t…

Most anticipated release for the second part of the year

Either Out For Blood by Deborah Masson, or Keep Her Quiet by Emma Curtis. I actually have ARCs of both waiting for me on my NetGalley shelf!

Biggest disappointment

Searching For Edgar’s Five Dancers by Efren O’Brien. I was so excited for this one, but it really disappointed me, and I ended up DNF’ing it.

Biggest surprise

Our Bloody Pearl by D.N. Bryn. I had expected to enjoy this book, but I definitely wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did!

New favourite author (debut or new to you)

Jackie Baldwin. I read her most recent release, Avenge the Dead, for a blog tour I took part in, and it has been one of my favourite books of the year so far. I now own copies of all of her other books, and I can not wait to read them!

Underrated gems you’ve discovered recently

Again, Our Bloody Pearl by D.N. Bryn, and also Killer Domes and the Chosen One by Gibbo Gibbs!

Rereads this year

My only reread so far this year is actually my current read. I last read Lord of the Flies by William Golding about 12 years ago, when I was still in high school. At the time, I didn’t pay a huge amount of attention, and certainly didn’t appreciate it properly, so I decided to read it again.

Newest fictional crush

Don’t have any…

Newest favourite character

Dr Augusta Bloom, from Leona Deakin’s Dr Bloom series.

Book that made you cry

I actually don’t think any of my 2020 reads so far have made me cry! I’m sure there are a few that I have lined up which will definitely have me crying though.

Book that made you happy

I would probably have to say Our Bloody Pearl again!

Favourite book to film adaptation

I can’t think of any films, but I watched You on Netflix this year. I still haven’t read the book, but I really enjoyed the series.

Most beautiful cover you’ve bought (or received) this year

I bought myself the Folio Society edition of The Notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci with some birthday money, and they are incredible!

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Oh wow, there are too many! I have a list of books to get through for the 2020 TBR Reading Challenge, plus all of my ARCs and review requests!

Favourite post you have done this year?

My eco-friendly alternatives series:
1. Bathroom objects
2. Kitchen objects
3. Health and beauty objects
