The Cake Book Tag

Hey everyone!

Today’s post is The Cake book tag! I saw this tag on The Strawberry Post, and thought it would be fun to do it myself.

CHOCOLATE CAKE: A dark book you absolutely love

I love a lot of dark books, so there are so many I could choose, but I’m going with American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis. This story is so messed up, but it is a fantastic book!

VANILLA CAKE: A light read

Light reads aren’t my typical style, I’m more of an intense story sort of person. BUT, having recently read The Beast and the Bethany by Jack Meggitt-Phillips (review here), how could I choose anything but that for this one?

RED VELVET: A book that gave you mixed emotions

The Photographer of the Lost by Caroline Scott. This book is so heartbreaking, but it also has some happy moments too, and was generally a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. This is the best historical fiction novel I have ever read! (review here)

CHEESECAKE: A book you would recommend to anyone

Okay, I have chosen a book that I think is absolutely brilliant, and definitely deserves to be known. Our Bloody Pearl by D.N. Bryn doesn’t get even nearly enough acknowledgement! (review here)

COFFEE CAKE: A book you started but never finished

Until this year, I didn’t DNF, but I realised that there is no point wasting time on a book I’m not enjoying. So, I’m not going to pick one book, because I have a few! You can find out which books I have DNF’ed on my GoodReads shelf (some I reviewed, and some I didn’t).

CARROT CAKE: A book with great writing

I know what you’re thinking, will she ever shut up about this book? well, no, I don’t think I will. Twisted by Steve Cavanagh is a work of genius (review here)! His writing is always fantastic, but he really stepped it up with this book.

TIRAMISU: A book that left you wanting more

There are a lot of books that fit this one, but I’m going to go with a recent read, and say The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (review here)! I loved this book so much! It ends with a cliffhanger, and I am desperate for the next book in the series.

CUPCAKES: A series with 4+ Books

Of course, I have chosen my favourite for this one! The Vampirates series by Justin Somper has 6 books (7 if you include the World Book Day novella, which is set between books 1 and 2).

FRUIT CAKE: A book that wasn’t what you anticipated

Cupidity by Lucinda Lamont. The book blurb made it sound completely different to what it really was, and I was massively disappointed. The blurb made it sound great, but I personally thought the actual story was awful, and I didn’t enjoy it at all.
