Today, I am doing the Out of My Comfort Zone book tag, which I saw over on allieereads.
For this tag, there is only one rule:
You have to pick ONE GENRE that you frequently read about… and then, you can’t use ANY books from that genre while answering the questions!
My most read genre is thriller, so I won’t be choosing any books from that genre.
1 – A book that is an exception when it comes to genres or elements you don’t typically like.
I’m not a huge fan of books that revolve around terminal illness, mainly because I find them way too depressing, so I tend to avoid them. But The Fault in Our Stars is brilliant! It has the perfect balance of humour and seriousness, and I love it. You can read my review HERE!
2 – A Book You Enjoyed From A Genre You Previously Held Some Stigma Against
I didn’t necessarily hold some stigma against it, but I always assumed I wouldn’t enjoy Middle Grade, as I thought it would seem too childish. But, I have been reading more MG lately, and I absolutely loved The Last Bear by Hannah Gold! Keep an eye out for my review.
3 – A Book You Didn’t Know Was Out Of Your Comfort Zone Until You Started Reading It
I received a copy of Blood Metal Bone through NetGalley, which I requested because it sounded amazing. From the description on NetGalley, it gave off Children of Blood and Bone vibes. When I initially started reading it, that is exactly what it was like, and I was really enjoying it, but then it took a completely unexpected sci-fi turn that was in no way mentioned in the NetGalley description. I’m not a fan of sci-fi, and it ruined the book for me.
4 – Pick A Friend Who Motivates You To Pick Up Books You Might Not Normally Be Interested In – Is There A Book They Convinced You To Give A Try?
I’m not choosing one specific person, but the whole of our @The_WriteReads group chat. They are always recommending books, and convincing me to explore out of my comfort zone!
5 – A Book That Is Out of Your Comfort Zone, But You Would Like to Read
I don’t really read retellings, but These Violent Delights is one that I am desperate to read! I have a copy, and intend to read it very soon.
6 – A Book/Genre So Outside Of Your Comfort Zone That You’ll Probably Never Give It A Chance
I don’t think there are any that I would say I definitely would never give a chance, because you never know unless you try right?
