Hey everyone!
Today, I am sharing my August TBR, but this month is a little different, because I am taking part in the Trope-ical Readathon! I am part or team Mystery/Horror/Thriller. I have chosen books for every prompt, but realistically, there is no way I will read even half of them… but no harm in trying, right? Wish me luck!
Common Challenges:
Prompt 1 – Absent/Dead Parent(s) OR A Book Published Under A Pseudonym

I have gone with the ‘Absent/Dead Parent(s)’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is Amari and the Night Brothers. I have already read this (and here’s my review), and I loved it, so I am reading it again for this prompt.
Prompt 2 – Time Loop OR A Reread

I have gone with the ‘A Reread’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is Lullaby. I read this back in 2018 (before I had even started my blog!) and thought it was a fantastic read, so it’ll be interesting to see if I feel the same after my reread.
Prompt 3 – Found Family OR A Buddy/Group Read

I have gone with the ‘A Buddy/Group Read’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is Changeling. I am in a series bookclub with a few of my wonderful book friends, and we will be starting Changeling (book 3 of the Six Stories series) at the beginning of August.
Prompt 4 – Coming-of-Age OR A Book Whose Protagonist Is The Same Age As You

I have gone with the ‘Coming-of-Age’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is The Kite Runner. I noticed that this was one of the suggestions for this prompt on the Trope-ical Readathon page, and I have actually had a copy for years and never read it, so now is the perfect opportunity.
Prompt 5 – Food Themed OR A “Meaty” Book (Over 500 Pages)

I have gone with the ‘Food Themed’ part of this prompt, and my chosen book is With The Fire On High. I picked this from the recommended books for the prompt, because I had no idea what to choose, and I’ve heard great things about this one!
Prompt 6 – Blast From The Past OR A Book Published Before 2000

I have gone with the ‘A Book Published Before 2000’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is Fluke. This has been on my TBR for so long, and I was already determined to read it before the end of the year. Fluke was published in 1977.
Prompt 7 – Mixed Media OR An Audiobook or Ebook

I have gone with the ‘An Audiobook or Ebook’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is Next of Kin. Although this book isn’t released until 2nd September, I have a digital ARC from NetGalley which I want to read before publication day, so I will be reading it in ebook format. I have also pre-ordered a signed hardback copy of the book!
Prompt 8 – (Post) Apocalyptic OR A Book With Fire On The Cover

I have gone with the ‘A Book With Fire On The Cover’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is Lies Like Wildfire. I am taking part in the @The_WriteReads blog tour for this book, so it made sense to slip it in to the readathon prompt choices too.
Prompt 9 – Historical Figure OR A Book Published In 2021

I have gone with the ‘A Book Published In 2021’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is Invite Me In. This physical book isn’t actually published until 2nd September, but the ebook is now available. I have an ARC from NetGalley that I want to read before the official publication.
Prompt 10 – All Happens In One Day OR Read A Book In 24 Hours

I have gone with the ‘Read A Book In 24 Hours’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is Backstories. I received a free copy from the author, in exchange for an honest review. I was planning to read it in July, but then I saw this prompt for the readathon and knew that it was the perfect fit.
Prompt 11 – Multiple POV OR Multiple POC Characters

I have gone with the ‘Multiple POC Characters’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is Ace of Spades. I recently bought myself a copy after seeing it all over social media, and I am so excited to read it!
Prompt 12 – The New Kid In Town OR A Genre You Don’t Usually Read

I have gone with the ‘A Genre You Don’t Usually Read’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is Kate In Waiting. As most of you know, I’m not a huge contemporary or romance reader, but I’ve heard so many good things about this, so I’m giving it a go!
Prompt 13 – Retelling OR A Book With A TV/Movie Adaptation

I have gone with the ‘A Book With A TV/Movie Adaptation’ part of the prompt, and my chosen book is You. I have seen the Netflix series, which I really enjoyed, and I’ve had an ebook copy for quite a while, so now is the perfect chance to read it.
Team Challenges:
Prompt 1 – “Is It Supernatural?” (Read A Book Where The Events May or May Not Be Paranormal/Supernatural)

For this prompt, my chosen book is The Whisper Man. This was a recommended book for the prompt, but I have also had an ebook copy of it for quite a while.
Prompt 2 – Read A Book With The “Locked-Room Mystery” Trope

For this prompt, my chosen book is The Guest List. I’ve heard a lot about Lucy Foley’s books, and this was one of the recommended reads for this prompt.
Team Book:
The Taking of Jake Livingston by Ryan Douglas

Out of the team books for team Mystery/Horror/Thriller, I have chosen to read The Taking of Jake Livingston. I have heard so many good things about this book, and I already wanted to read it, so it only seemed right to choose this out of the team book choices that were given.
