My Review:

From the blurb, We Watch You sounds exactly like the type of book I love to read, so when Dave announced the blog tour for this book, I immediately jumped on it. I had to read it! Dave knows I’m a sucker for a good thriller!

We immediately jump in to the main focus of the book, the disappearance of Tina, and we are introduced to Lauren, Jess, and Claire at the very beginning, with them discussing the news. I was intrigued by the three women’s friendship, and their connection to Tina, and was instantly excited to see what else was to come.

The story is written from multiple POV, with new people being added along the way. For me, the best addition was the inclusion of Tina’s blog post chapters, titled TJ’s Mind Space. I felt that these gave us a much deeper insight in to the background of the story, especially in regards to Tina herself. It takes us in to her mind before her disappearance, and it is clear to see that she was in a very bad place. In a few of the blog posts, I could really relate to Tina on a personal and emotional level.

I was desperate to know what Lauren, Jess, and Claire had done to Tina to warrant a revenge motive. Why did the three of them feel so guilty? Why did they think that Tina’s disappearance was their fault? They were very clearly hiding something, and I NEEDED to know what it was! Further in to the story, it becomes apparent that they all have many more secrets than each of them even realises, and it was so exciting to see all of those secrets unravel.

I really enjoyed Lauren’s character, and it was interesting to see how she navigated the world, and her autism. I think the author did a brilliant job of showing the difficulties that autism can create for someone in every day situations, and the way it was written could be really beneficial in showing others how to understand this better. In regards to autism, I do think that most people don’t understand how it can effect every day life, and that’s something that needs to change.

Throughout the story, there is a very ‘is she? or isn’t she?’ vibe towards whether Tina is in fact alive or dead, and along the way I had so many different theories, and couldn’t decide which I believed. Of course, the answer is revealed towards the end of the book, but certainly not in a way I expected.

This brings me on to the ending of the story. I was really enjoying it. It was exciting, and tense, and I felt that it was wrapped up perfectly. But then… PLOT TWIST. Right at the end, there is a big twist that takes this story in a totally different direction (pretty much in to a totally different genre), and also then leaves it open for a sequel. Personally, I did not enjoy this twist. I just didn’t think it was necessary, as the story had already been wrapped up in a much nicer way, and I wish it had just been left the way it was before the twist.

Overall, this book is great, but I did feel that the ending let the rest of the book down. Because of this, I have lowered my rating from what it would have been, which is a shame, because I did really enjoy the rest of the story.

I give We Watch You a 3.5 star rating!
