The Mid-Year Freakout Tag

Hey everyone!
Today, I will be doing the Mid-Year Freakout tag. I’ve done this tag for the past 2 years, so of course I had to do it this year too!

How much have you read?

So, I set my GoodReads reading challenge to 40 books for the year, and so far, I have read 31. I am really happy with how much I’ve read so far this year considering how many big things I’ve had going on, and I’m on track to not only reach my target but to pass it.

What have you been reading?

Mainly thrillers, which is nothing unusual, but I have also read a mix of other genres as well.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2022?

I’ve read so many great books already this year, but the standout book for me has to be Viper by Bex Hogan.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2022?

I haven’t read many sequels this year, but out of the few that I have, my favourite is probably The Beast and The Bethany: Revenge of The Beast by Jack Meggitt-Phillips. I loved the first book in the series, but this one was so much more than I could have expected. It was fantastic!

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

There are quite a few! However, I desperately want to read A Life For A Life by Carol Wyer. The book was released back in March, and I have had a copy of the book since then. I am hoping to read it in the next couple of months.

Most anticipated release for the second part of the year

Oh wow, there are SO many!!! My 2 most anticipated releases which I can’t decide between are The Accomplice by Steve Cavanagh, and Amari and the Great Game by B.B. Alston.

Biggest disappointment

Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw. I had hyped this up so much in my head, and just from the cover art alone I had expected so much from it, but it really let me down. It wasn’t BAD, but it wasn’t the creepy horror that I had wanted it to be.

Biggest surprise

The biggest surprise for me was definitely Undercover Princess by Connie Glynn. This was so much more than I had expected, it was absolutely brilliant and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

New favourite author (debut or new to you)

Krystal Sutherland. I FINALLY read House of Hollow, and it was incredible! I can not wait to read more by this author in the future.

Underrated gems you’ve discovered recently

Sins of The Father by Sharon Bairden. This was completely different than I had expected it to be, but it was fantastic, and it’s definitely massively underrated.

Rereads this year

I have only reread two books this year, The Last Bear by Hannah Gold, and Demons of the Ocean by Justin Somper. I love them both so much, just as much as every other time I have read them.

Newest fictional crush

Don’t have any.

Newest favourite character

It has to be Vivi from House of Hollow. She’s just such a vibe! Rebellious, fun, interesting, and I love her whole aesthetic. I feel like we could be friends.

Book that made you cry

Once again, The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. This book makes me cry every single time!

Book that made you happy

Why Mummy’s Sloshed by Gill Sims. This whole series makes me happy actually! It’s just so real and honest about parenthood and adult life, but at the same time it is hilariously funny.

Favourite book to film adaptation

I don’t think I’ve watched any new adaptations this year yet!

Most beautiful cover you’ve bought (or received) this year

Despite the fact that I didn’t enjoy the book as much as I had wanted, the cover for Nothing But Blackened Teeth is definitely my favourite that I have bought this year. Just look at it!

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Too many! I have multiple challenges that I need to complete, and lots of ARCs to get through too!

Favourite post you have done this year?

I’m not really sure to be honest… But, I will go with my review of Murder In The Neighbourhood by Ellen J. Green!
