Book Blurb:

SALVATION HAS A PRICE.

An enthralling murder mystery with a vividly realised future world, forcing readers to grapple hard hitting questions about the climate crisis, our relationship with Artificial Intelligence and the price we would be willing to pay, as a species, to be saved. Perfect for fans of Blake Crouch, Neal Stephenson, Philip K Dick, Kim Stanley Robinson and RR Haywood.

It’s 2050, a decade after a heatwave that killed four hundred million across the Persian Gulf, including journalist Marcus Tully’s wife. Now he must uncover the truth: was the disaster natural? Or is the weather now a weapon of genocide?

A whistleblower pulls Tully into a murder investigation at the centre of an election battle for a global dictator, with a mandate to prevent a climate apocalypse. A former US President campaigns against the first AI politician of the position, but someone is trying to sway the outcome.

Tully must convince the world to face the truth and make hard choices about the future of the species. But will humanity ultimately choose salvation over freedom, whatever the cost?

My Review:

Artificial Wisdom begins with Tully. He’s clearly still reeling from the death of his wife, and when a whistleblower informs Tully that he has information on the events surrounding his wife’s death, he is all in, and hell bent on getting to the bottom of it. But things aren’t as simple as they may seem, and soon he finds himself, and his team, in the midst of chaos and in grave danger. From the very beginning, there is so much going on in this book. It goes from 0 to 100 immediately, and I loved that! Straight away your attention is caught and you know you are in for one hell of a ride.

There are some fantastic characters in the book, all with varying personalities, and interesting back stories which are very well written. I’m glad that we got to hear quite a bit about each character individually as I felt that it let us get to know them in a way that really pulled you into the story. It made you care about each of them in different ways and therefore has you completely invested.

There are also many important topics that are relevant in today’s world which feature within the story. The subject of AI is one of the main focuses of the book, but it is much more advanced than in our world. I think a lot of us are a little afraid of AI, but the possibilities for it are endless, and I liked how Artificial Wisdom shows both the positive and negatives of AI, and how used in the right ways it could be a huge benefit to us all.

The topic of climate change and the severity of the situation is something that we are all talking about right now. Artificial Wisdom gives an idea of the potential outcome of if we continue to destroy our planet the way we are right now, and it certainly makes you think about how your own actions are effecting the world. It’s terrifying to think that the world in the book could actually become a reality, but unfortunately it could unless we act now. This story really gets you thinking about what lengths you would go to to save humanity, and what you would be willing to sacrifice to save our world.

The murder mystery itself pulls you in, and I was desperately trying to figure out the culprit, but there were so many curveballs thrown along the way that my mind was forever changing. The danger of the investigation came on multiple levels, physical, mental, through technology, you just never knew where the next threat would be coming from and I loved that. Ultimately, all of the separate strands and different aspects of the story come together like a spider web, linking together so smoothly, with an outcome that you would have never expected, but also makes the most sense out of all of the options. The perfect way to end up the story, but I’m desperately hoping for a sequel.

This book is in some ways extremely important. It’s thought provoking, focuses on important real life topics, but also has an edge of the seat thrill that will keep you hooked from start to finish. I think this book is fantastic, and I highly recommend it to everyone!

I give Artificial Wisdom a 5 star rating!
