Today, I will be doing the Bookish Boxes and Buzzwords tag. Thank you to the lovely Erika @ And On She Reads for tagging me. If you haven’t already, check out her amazing blog!
1 – Your go-to genre, or favourite type of book:
We all know that my go-to genre/favourite type of book are thrillers! But I have been broadening my reading a lot more lately.
2 – Retellings you are drawn to:
I haven’t really read many retellings to be honest, but I do have a few on my TBR. However, I have read Circe by Madeline Miller, and I loved it (plus, it has THE most beautiful cover).
3 – Lifestyles or careers of the book characters:
I’m not really sure how to answer this one… I assume I give a lifestyle or career I enjoy reading about? Well, I love pirate stories, so I’ll go for the pirate lifestyle. I really enjoy the adventures of characters out at sea!
4 – Places and settings you are drawn to:
As stated in my previous answer, I love the ships at sea setting. I don’t even know what it is about it, it’s just something I love. I guess it all started with the Vampirates series by Justin Somper.
5 – Relationships you enjoy reading about:
I’m not really a huge romance fan, but I do quite enjoy enemies to lovers, there’s something a bit more exciting about it. And in a non romantic way, I love a strong sibling relationship.
6 – Buzzwords in the title of the book:
From looking at my shelves, there’s not really a particular word that I’m drawn to, but I do seem to pick up a lot of books with a dark title, ones that point to murder and mystery, but given that thrillers are my go-to it is hardly surprising.
7 – Things on book covers that draw you in:
I don’t think there is anything to be honest. I prefer minimal covers, especially ones that are only typography, so there’s nothing in particular on a cover that draws me in.
8 – Non-fiction buzzword or a non-fiction area you are drawn to:
This won’t come as a surprise to many of you, but I am drawn to true crime books. I find true crime fascinating (not in a creepy serial killer way, don’t worry). And if a book is about the Kray twins, you know I’m going to be buying it!
9 – Medical conditions of characters:
There’s not a particular medical condition that I love to see, mainly because I think all conditions deserve some rep. However, I do like to see chronic illness, or non-visible disabilities, because even in the real world I don’t think they receive enough attention or understanding.
10 – Time of year, or time in history / future that you are drawn to:
I am a sucker for a WWI or WWII setting! Even as a child, I was always interested in learning as much as I could about both World Wars, and that has continued in adulthood, and I guess that has also had an impact in my fictional reading too.
BONUS #1: Any other bookish boxes or buzzwords not already mentioned:
Not that I can think of… I can’t resist a good art book, especially ones about Van Gogh. Does that count? I don’t even know.
BONUS #2: What bookish boxes or buzzwords turn you away from a book?
Anything romance. It’s a no from me…. A massive turn away for me is if a book has one of those covers that have someone half naked trying to look “steamy” on them, because usually they’re not “steamy”, they’re just mega cringe, haha!
