GoodReads Synopsis:

A deadly prosecutor

They call him the King of Death Row. Randal Korn has sent more men to their deaths than any district attorney in the history of the United States.

A twisted ritualistic killing

When a young woman, Skylar Edwards, is found murdered in Buckstown, Alabama, a corrupt sheriff arrests the last person to see her alive, Andy Dubois. It doesn’t seem to matter to anyone that Andy is innocent.

A small town boiling with rage

Everyone in Buckstown believes Andy is guilty. He has no hope of a fair trial. And the local defense attorney assigned to represent him has disappeared.

A former con-artist

Hot shot New York lawyer Eddie Flynn travels south to fight fire with fire. He plans to destroy the prosecutors case, find the real killer and save Andy from the electric chair.

But the murders are just beginning.

Is Eddie Flynn next?

My Review:

I have had a copy of The Devil’s Advocate since it was released (I pre-order all of Steve Cavanagh’s books), but because of blog tours and ARCs I just hadn’t gotten around to reading it. But I am so happy that I finally have!

The story begins with Randal Korn, preparing to put death row inmate Darius Robinson in the death chair, known as Yellow Mama, while Cody Warren did everything in his power to prevent it from happening. Within 5 pages, you’re hit with a twist in the story, and what a fantastic start to the story it is! It makes you immediately excited for what is still to come.

I was so happy to be back with Eddie Flynn and his team. It goes without saying that I adore Eddie Flynn, but Kate is definitely up there as a favourite too. She’s such a badass! I love the teams organised chaos, and the way that they will do whatever it takes to bring down the bad guy. But this time, the team were up against far worse than they’ve ever experienced before. There are so many sinister characters in this story, all of which are unpredictable and powerful, and would stop at nothing to get rid of Eddie and his team. They really had their work cut out this time.

I had so many theories along the way, but there were so many curveballs thrown in that my theories were changing every 5 minutes. That’s one of the things I love most about Steve Cavanagh’s writing, he’s such a master at plot twists, that I know never to be too certain about my theories, because there’s bound to be something coming that will blow it out of the water.

This book tackles some serious topics including racism/white supremacy, radicalisation, and police corruption. It grabs you in its claws right from the beginning, and doesn’t let up at all. The story is a fast paced thrill ride which comes together in an explosive but super satisfying ending.

Steve Cavanagh is easily one of my favourite authors, and this was an incredible addition to one of my absolute favourite series. I can not wait to continue the Eddie Flynn series as soon as possible with The Accomplice.

I give The Devil’s Advocate a 5 star rating!
