First Lines Fridays – 19th August 2022

Hey everyone!

It is time for this week’s First Lines Fridays post!

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

The first lines of today’s chosen book are:

The excitement was bubbling inside him. He hadn’t been seen, he was sure of it. With his back against the grimy wall, he gingerly peeked round the corner. Through the foggy darkness he could just make out her muddy skirts swishing away from him.

And the book is…

The Ripper of Whitechapel by Yvette Fielding

Book Blurb:

When the ghosts of two young children start to haunt a local school, trainee ghost hunters Eve, Clovis and Tom are invited to help investigate the case. But before long they realise there is more to this haunting that they first realised. Could it be that the ghost children are victims of Jack the Ripper? And is the evil Ripper of Whitechapel about to unleash a new campaign of terror from beyond the grave?

I recently received a review copy of The Ripper of Whitechapel from @KaleidoscopicBT in preparation for the upcoming blog tour. I’m desperate to dive in to this one, as the case of Jack the Ripper has always interested me, and I’m excited to see how this story plays out.

Have you read this book?
If yes, what did you think of it?
