Yearly Wrap Up – 2024

Hey everyone!
2024 has been quite a year, and here’s a little wrap up of what I got up to.

In my personal life it was very up and down. My husband and I went on the most beautiful honeymoon in Kos, we went on adventures in the UK with our daughter, saw lots of art exhibitions, lots of rugby, and created the most wonderful family memories. I started doing ballet and tap classes, and step classes, which I love. I also enrolled on a portraiture course with London Art College, with the aim of making my art my full time career! However, I was also ill a lot, and was eventually diagnosed with a chronic illness. There has been a lot of frustration and upset, but also a lot of adapting and accepting. I feel like I’m on the right path, and ready to take on 2025!

In regards to books, and my blog, I had a very good year! I read so many incredible books, found lots of new authors, and I feel like I’ve started to make some big improvements on my blog too. Here is an overview of all my bookish achievements in 2024:

GoodReads Challenge:

At the beginning of the year, I set myself a target of 30 books. In 2023 I had set it to 50 but didn’t complete it, so I lowered it in 2024, not only in the hope of reaching my goal, but also because I wanted to focus more on my portraiture course. I’m very happy that I managed to not only reach my goal, but also pass it. In total, I read 45 books in 2024.

Favourite Book of the Year:

My favourite book of 2024 was Not Like Other Girls by Meredith Adamo. This is a fantastic young adult thriller, and an incredible debut from the author. I felt a real personal connection with the main character, which made me enjoy this book even more.

Authors I Have Discovered This Year, and Loved:

I have discovered so many fantastic new to me authors this year, and in some cases it was their debut book. If you head over to my top 5 books of 2024 post linked above, all 5 are by new to me authors. Here are some other new to me authors that I loved, that aren’t in the top 5 post:

  • Frank Cadaver (Author of You’d Better Watch Out)
  • Agustina Bazterrica (Author of Tender Is The Flesh)

  • Jo Middleton (Author of Happy Bloody Christmas)

Reading Goals/Challenges:

I set myself a few goals and challenges for 2024, you can read the original post for them all HERE.

  • 24 in 2024 Reading Challenge

In 2024, I took part in the 24 in 2024 Reading Challenge. You can find my TBR for the challenge HERE. I didn’t complete the challenge, but I did better than I did with my 23 in 2023 challenge. You can see my results for 24 in 2024 HERE!

  • #BeatTheBacklog

I have tried to do #BeatTheBacklog a few years in a row now, and I never seem to manage it. I definitely added more new books to my shelves than I read from my backlog, but I did tick off a few that had been on my TBR for years! So, I wouldn’t consider it a success, but I also wouldn’t consider it a failure.

BBNYA (Book Bloggers Novel of the Year Award):

Once again, I was lucky enough to be a team leader for this year’s Book Bloggers Novel of the Year Award! I love being a part of this every year, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

The competition was extremely close again this year, closer than it ever has book, and once again, I read some fantastic books. One of my allocated final round books was actually my favourite book that I have ever read for the competition.

For the third year in a row, not only was I a team leader, I also had the massive opportunity to provide custom made bookmarks as part of the finalist prizes, so for this, I would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to the team in charge.

My Blog:

In 2024, I had a total of 16,921 views! It’s over 2000 more views than I had in 2023, which is great. Over the last few months, I have been going back through old posts and updating them, and it’s clear that I didn’t really know what I was doing back when I first started my blog. I think these improvements have really helped, and I have seen an increase in traffic to my older posts, which has obviously had an impact on my stats for the year. I am very happy with my end of year stats, and I’m hoping they will only get better in 2025.

I have continued to grow and create friendships within the book community, and have had so much fun along the way! Obviously the downfall of Twitter/X has had an impact, as so many of the book community have left there (I am still there), but newer platforms like BlueSky have really taken off. The book community is such a joy to be a part of, and I can not wait to see what 2025 has in store for me and my blog.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been a part of my blogging journey in 2024, to all of my followers and readers, and everyone who has been supportive along the way!
